About Us

Our approach is very simple – we try to offer a high level of customer service combined with a range of great value products and services.

As we are a mutual co-operative, we don’t have shareholders – instead, we are owned by all our members. This means that we aren’t required to make huge profits. So what you will notice when you deal with us is:

  • generally better interest rates,
  • generally lower fees, and
  • personalised service

To put it another way – we’re here for the benefit of our members – like you, not us.

Our History

AMP Credit Union was originally incorporated as AMP Employees’ and Agents’ Credit Union Limited on 9th November 1971 and commenced operation on 6th December 1971.

Initial investigation into the establishment of the Credit Union was made by the AMP Staff Association together with a committee appointed by like minded AMP Society employees.

Membership was open to employees and agents of the AMP Group as well as their friends and family.

In 1999, AMP Credit Union joined forces with GIO Staff Credit Union Ltd and the field of membership was expanded to include GIO Australia.

In 2004, the Credit Union registered the business name AMP Credit Union, and in 2007, the Credit Union changed its company name to AMP Credit Union Ltd.

Today, we have over 10,000 members and are able to provide most of the products and services that you would usually find in a major bank.

AMPCU is owned by its members. All deposits held with AMPCU are backed by the Australian Federal Government Deposit Guarantee up to $1 million per depositor.
